A Friday Night Out With Friends From School At A Local College Bar Leads To Irresponsible Drinking And An Alcohol Overdose
When Lois was in high school, she had acquired a reputation as a book worm who rarely, if ever, drank with her peers. She seemed determined to "stand out" academically so that she would be able to go after a career that she not only enjoyed but one that also gave her a degree of security from a financial standpoint.
After Lois completed high school, she applied to and was accepted into a celebrated program in English. Her logic for this decision was that this area of study would be good preparation for law school and would not be indistinguishable from the majority of law school applicants who pick political science as their undergraduate major.
Lois was the type of individual who worked rigorously to complete what she was doing and then would take a breather when she could. As is the case, nevertheless, nearly all of the things she did between school sessions or during her summer vacations did not involve drinking. Clearly, Lois was anything but a partygoer. Now that her finals for her second year in law school were done and feeling happy that she had done extremely well on her finals, nevertheless, she wanted to let her hair down and do something besides going to college for a change.
So Lois and a few of her friends from school went to a local watering hole where they had a few shots. As the evening proceeded, Lois and her friends continued to drink. In actual fact, she was having such a fabulous time that she didn't want the night to end.
After drinking about seventy-five minutes when Lois started to slur her words, speak in a confused manner, and then pass out, in spite of this, her buddies promptly knew that they needed to call that they needed to call 911, the emergency services number, and ask for medical assistance because they believed that Lois was exhibiting alcohol poisoning symptoms.
Lois was attentive to the fact that she came close to dying from an alcohol overdose and, as a consequence, was grateful to be alive. At the same time, however, she was somewhat disheartened knowing that she had almost died the night before. Her parents were aware how rigorously she worked at the university and how little she let herself experience a social life. Nonetheless, they also realized that Lois needed to stay away from careless drinking.
Consequently, they recommended that down the road, whenever a drinking opportunity presents itself, that she always drink in moderation. Lois was of the same opinion and assured her Mom and Dad and her friends that she would never ever drink in an excessive manner. In Lois's own words, "I never had an inkling that I might become one of the alcohol poisoning statistics in the local city newspaper. I now know that abusive and excessive drinking is not my style. I assure everyone that this will never happen again."
Fortunately, Lois was not only "school smart" but she also possessed. Stated more precisely, she instantaneously comprehended that she had made an error in judgment and decided that she would never make the same error in judgment again. In truth, she now grasped the fact that she had involved herself in "binge drinking" and that even one instance of this form of abusive and irresponsible drinking can result in a fatality.
