A Married Couple Becomes Alarmed About Their Irresponsible And Excessive Drinking And Wonders If They Manifest Any Signs Of Alcoholism
Angie and Lenny have been married for three years. They wanted to experience some excitement and fun before they made up their minds to have children and so they consciously developed an incredibly active social life.
The principal problem, however, is that very nearly everything they do for excitement is associated with drinking. For instance, all of the sporting events, family get-togethers, parties with friends, dinner engagements, and happy hours they frequent somehow involve drinking.
If they were occasional drinkers this wouldn't be such a major problem. Since they drink rather excessively, nonetheless, they are starting to notice some definite alcohol-related issues in their lives.
For instance, just three weeks ago Lenny got his first DWI and has been ignoring responsibilities at work due to alcohol-related health problems. Not only this, but Lenny's last two performance evaluations at work have been less than satisfactory and he has started to forget what he says or does the times that he drinks. Lastly, Lenny has been experiencing sleep-related problems and his family is starting to get nervous about his drinking behavior.
Similar to Lenny's situation, Angie has been feeling down in the dumps about life in general and to deal with these feelings, she has been drinking more frequently than any time in the past year. What is more, Angie has been experiencing quite a few headaches and going through awful hangovers after drinking. As a final point, Angie has been feeling appreciably less energetic in the morning, she has been showing up late for work, and she has been receiving some strong criticism from her relatives, friends, family members, and coworkers about her abusive and hazardous drinking.
One Monday evening while watching the television, Angie and Lenny happened upon a documentary about alcohol facts and alcoholism facts in general and about the signs of alcoholism in particular. This television program was a real bombshell to Lenny and Angie because some of the alcohol facts that were featured looked as if they were unquestionably associated with more than a few of the drinking problems Lenny and Angie had been suffering through.
With thoughts of the TV program still imprinted in her mind, Angie asked Lenny if some of the alcohol dependency signs they have been displaying could mean that they are alcohol dependent or conceivably becoming addicted to alcohol. Lenny didn't know the answer to Angie's inquiry and so he suggested that they make an appointment with one of the physicians at the nearby drug and alcohol treatment center to find out more about the severity of their drinking problems.
Strangely enough, even though their drinking behavior hadn't yet changed, it was noticeable that Lenny and Angie were at least addressing their drinking problems, they were ready to find out more about their drinking behavior, and they were interested in discovering how they could substantially reduce or do away with the drinking-related issues that had started to escalate.
When Lenny and Angie went to bed that evening, they made up their minds that the next afternoon, Lenny would call and make an appointment for both of them at the substance abuse rehab facility located in the middle of town. After they promised one another that they would do whatever it takes to conquer the alcohol-related issues that had developed in their lives, they actually had the most peaceful night's sleep they could think of in the last three months.
