The reason why dog lovers possess this preconceived notion that small dogs are more hard to discipline than medium sized or larger dogs, I will never be able to understand. Housebreaking a puppy, in spite of its size should never be a problem.

Small dog training, is in no way different from training a pup of any other size. While training any pup will have its peculiarities, pertaining to its breed, most all other aspects remain similar, and the approach to training the pup should not be different, irrespective its size.

Aggression.

Small dogs are liked because they are sweet, they are like toys. Owners enjoy having their doggy sit on their laps. This indulgence is where the difficulty begins. The natural aggressive trait of the dog, is to take ownership over its domain, its food, even its master; all pups want to be the alpha dog.

It is the hostile streak in the dog that causes it to climb on to the lap of its owner, specially when there are a number of people sitting in the room.

This is a blatant act of violence. Instead of chastising and checking the animal, every owner bar no one, would fondle the puppy, although it jumped on to their lap unbeckoned, promoting the aggressive streak in the animal. By doing this the owner has given into the dog's basic instinct to be the alpha dog.

Growling and getting mad at a much bigger dog is another blatant act of aggression. To the owner, and even the people who witness it, this is looked on as cute, just because one dog is small while the other is big. Most owners cuddle the pooch instead of scolding it, when it demonstrates this aggression against a larger dog.

What is stated above are but examples as to why small breed pet dogs are aggressive, and definitely not because small dog training is complicated.

Crate Training

Owners tend to carry their small dogs around where ever they go, even at home and that makes it practically impossible to house break them

It comes natural to the owners of miniature breed dogs to cart the animal to the spot where the dog should do its dirty business and then tote it back into the house.
